  • A support group is a gathering of patients and their families where they can receive emotional and practical support for an illness or a life problem, as well as valuable tips for every day coping.
  • What types of support groups are offered?
  • We offer cancer support groups that deal with the emotional impact of a cancer diagnosis and wellness groups which offer education and knowledge on various topics for healthy living.
  • Who facilitates a support group?
  • A support group may be facilitated by a Licensed Social Worker, Nurse Practitioner, Registered Nurse and/or Medical Doctor.
  • What are the benefits of participating in a support group?
  • Participation can boost your emotional and physical well-being. It is also an opportunity to find mutual encouragement and learn new ways of coping.
  • When should I participate in a support group?
  • You can participate in a support group at any phase of your cancer diagnosis, treatment or follow-up.
  • Will I be required to contribute to the group’s discussion?
  • Participation is based on your level of comfort. All are welcome to participate or to merely listen in group discussions.
  • Are support groups confidential?
  • All group discussions are confidential; however, if an individual is harmful to themselves or others, confidentiality is withdrawn to ensure their safety.
  • Can I bring someone with me?
  • Yes, all of our groups are open to a patient's family members and caregivers, unless otherwise noted.
  • Is there a fee for attending a support group?
  • All of our groups are free of charge. If you would like to participate, we encourage registering in advance.
  • Where can I get more information about support groups available?
  • Information is available on our website www.trinitasccc.org, in our reception areas and listed with the American Cancer Society.
